Subject: Dylan Rocks Memphis-Feb. 5 New Daisy From: Jim Maynard (jmaynard2@earthlink.net) Date: Sat, 06 Feb 1999 00:02:41 -0600 Wow! What a night! I was one of the lucky ones to get tickets to Dylan's last minute trip to Memphis' New Daisy. It was one of the best shows I've seen (my sixth). I thought Dylan was supposed to start at 8, that's what the ads said, but some blues singer named "mo head" (that's what it sounds like) opened and made everyone eager to hear dylan. But Dylan did not take to the stage until 9 p.m. The small New Daisy was pretty packed, though I think they could have sold another hundred tickets. There was not a bad place to be in the theatre, and the sound was great. I did spot microphones on both sides of the stage pointed at the audience...I think this concert was recorded (it will make a great live album!) Anyway, I'm not sure if I can remeber every song in the right order, but here's what I remember: Gotta Serve Somebody Million Miles Silvio Make You Feel My Love It Takes a Lot to Laugh, a Train to Cry Acoustic: Blue Eyed Jane It's All Over Now Baby Blue Friend of the Devil Tangled Up In Blue I Can't Wait Hwy 61 [Might be missing a song here...] Encore: Lovesick Everything is Broken Don't Think Twice It's Alright Not Fade Away Dylan was in great form, danced, smiled, played lots of guitar, sang pretty well, taking time to enunciate most songs, a few slurs. I went with a co-worker who's a musician, likes Dylan but not too familiar with him, and he was ecstatic. He didn't realize what a great musician and performer Dylan was. I think the whole crowd loved the show...it was well worth the $40 and standing in the rain two hours to get the tickets last Saturday. Even the weather was great, quite balmy down on Beale Street in Memphis. Check out the complete play list when Bill posts it.... Jim
