I'll look for you in old Honolulu, San Francisco, Ashtabula Ashtabula is a port on Lake Erie in Ohio. I've been there lots of times. . . Lots of ships from Northern Europe deliver and pick up goods there. It's a nice town with a great maritime museum. I wonder if Bob passed through. . .or if he just liked the sound of the word: Ashtabula!!! Marguerita
From: "Leah McLeroy" Subject: Ashtabula Date: Sat, 15 Dec 2001 16:01:59 -0600 I was reading the page about Ashtabula and I have some insights: In one of the recent biographies(Behind the Shades I think? - but I don't like the author)ÊI remember reading an interview with the woman (forget her name) who he was living with in MinnesotaÊwhile he wrote most of BloodÊon the Tracks. SheÊexplains the things in the song which were about her.ÊShe had lived in Honolulu, San FranciscoÊandÊ(had lived in or was from) Ashtabula.Ê"..clover,ÊQueen Anne's Lace, crimson hair across your face.." She remembered one time when he asked herÊthe name ofÊsome whiteÊflowers and she told them they were Queen Anne's Lace. She had red hair too, I think. Beautiful song!
